Max Bavin was born in Wigan and moved to Snitterfield as a young boy, when his father Eric Bavin was appointed headmaster at the village school He later moved to The Willows in Shottery, and attended King Edwards Grammar School until the age of 16. His love of bridge was inspired by John Wright a keen bridge player who taught the game  to interested students in their lunchtimes. Max was the youngest member of the team which won The Daily Mail school cup, when he was just 14; the other member being 16.Max joined Stratford Bridge Club in his late teens and rapidly became a prominent member. With his partner at that time, whom he taught to play bridge, he won every major   Warwickshire championship whilst still in his early 20’s. Subsequently he trained as a bridge tournament director, and joined the English Bridge Union as a full time employee. Within a short time Max became Chief Tournament Director; the youngest in the history of the Union. Such was his talent that he was later appointed the  head TD of the World Bridge Federation, a position he maintained and was universally regarded with the highest respect until he retired 3 years agoMax leaves a charming wife Roz, and a highly successful, intelligent son  Ben.Max was much loved, and will be greatly missed.
