Once in Malta, many years ago, he was the chief and I was a junior, and he let me do my work every day (including one where he had food poisoning and I just told him to go take care of himself that I would take care of the room, when we had another four tds down (!)) He told me a few words when we finished, during a chaotic ceremonial dinner: “you know you did a good job, don’t you”. Those words meant so much that still today they echo in my mind all the time. So many stories...😭
