Rui Marques to Max

Created by Ben 4 years ago
Such a sad day 😭 I met Max Bavin in 1993, in Montechoro (European Community Bridge Championships), my first international event. Claude Dadoun was still the “big chief”. We had score sheets, primitive computers, no bridgemates, boards duplicated at the table, and that’s where I started learning from him. Learning organization, leadership, technique. And learning how to be a better person. He didn’t preach lessons on anything, but with half a dozen words he would teach you more than a whole book would. It was a pleasure to see him organizing the start of a tournament with 200 or 300 tables. His knowledge of directing, and common sense, were next to none. Through the years I always tried to be as good, as knowledgeable, as “Max” as he was. It was a losing battle, for there is just one Max. But it was a learning battle. And after Max retired, every tournament I thought of him and I missed him. Now that he’s gone, I miss him so much. It hurts inside. Deep. Until next time, Max. Until... 💔💔💔
