I worked with Max at the EBU from 2006 until his retirement. Never an upset, never a dispute.

He knew more about Bridge and how it works than I will ever do. He knew about all of the personalities within the membership, which was a huge benefit during hugely political times of change.

Ben, I never really got to know him deeply, as he was a private man and I never wanted to probe. However, you came up in conversation, and I am 100% certain he is smiling down at you, so proud of how you are dealing with your loss, and how brilliantly you have made arrangements such as this for his memorial.

I am sorry I will be unable to be at the funeral, but I know it will be a moving, but happy day.
