Dear Ben I am dreadfully sorry but I will be unable to attend your father’s funeral due to health problems in my family. I know that Max has been lauded by many but I just wanted to let you know that as far as I am concerned he understood more about the game of bridge than any other person I have met. He was the greatest bridge intellect of his own and many generations of bridge players and directors. I am so sorry that he has passed away and my thoughts are with you and your mother at this most distressing time.
